When you are working for a company that is starting to have a need for a permanent courier service, you’re going to have to go through the process of opening an account with them. This is going to consist of filling out some basic paperwork to let the company know a few things about you and your organization, setting up billing practices, and deciding which services you want to hire the courier for. The basic process of setting up an account is going to be the same through messenger services to LTL carries to large scale freight hauling, so whatever your courier needs, you’ll know what you’re getting into.
The good news is that this isn’t going to be one of those obnoxiously long processes that involve a large stack of paperwork that seems to take forever to fill out. Really, there should be a minimum of effort involved with opening your account. The first form that you’re going to have to fill out is one that identifies clearly who is the account holder with the courier company. This will include things like the business address, contact information, and possible means of identity verification. The next form that you’ll have to fill out will be the one including your billing information, such as if you want your account to be automatically billed, have automatic bill payments, what payment method you want to use etc. Etc. You may also be asked to fill out a form outlining if you’re going to use the company for anything other than straightforward courier service such as for long term storage.
The actual filing of this type of paperwork isn’t going to take any time at all. The only period of time that might slow you down is waiting for the company to actually process all the paperwork and get your account approved and up and running. Sometimes you might be on a tight schedule though and opening an account because you have an immediate need for shipping. The good news is that most courier companies are going to be happy to start you up right away if you need them to push through the account approval process, because they’re going to want to keep you happy. Just be sure to let them know right from the outset if you’re going to need to start shipping with them immediately so they can help speed up the approval process.
